Is it normal to hate writing this much?

I just hate it. I really really really can't stand it and that's pretty much all there is to it. I'm not sure why but for the past two years or so writing has been the thing I dread most at school. I'm not even that bad at it, I get good grades on most of my essays and I took AP English and got a 5 on the test, but I hate the writing process more than anything. When I say writing I am mostly referring to essays, research papers, etc. and not necessarily freelance writing. The strange thing is though that I love reading. If I could hear from people who do well in school, take advanced classes, and/or are considered smart that would be most helpful since I fit into those categories for the most part and I want to see if people like me hate writing this much, though of course I appreciate any comments!

I don't think that you hate writing, but you hate the process, the organization an all the rules. Thats what I hate

i know what you mean. it was my downfall when i was studying. i really cant explain it because all other aspects of classes were good. and like you i love reading. i love to learn new things and i love to talk to people about things that ive learnt. but i hate writing about them. normal for me, but i dont know why or how to fix the problem.

Once you find your writing voice it makes writing pretty fun. I once wrote a 52 page paper on fractals and chaos theory in a math class I took. I took a creative approach with a strong voice, and it's now the model paper for that class. I also took a final in graduate school in my literary theory class, and I wrote a 17 page play where the characters (teacher, student)discussed Jacques Lacan's "The Symbolic Order" in great detail pertaining it to the required novel. I took a leap of faith on both accounts and got lucky that they accepted my work. I'm a full time writer and a par time teacher. SO, once you find your personal writing voice, it's like swinging in he playground. HOWEVER, in high school I sucked at writing!

i just graduated with a bachelors in english...i think part of it's wracking your brain, cramming a bunch of thoughts in to a coherent pile. also the awful blinking cursor on a blank page, but if you get over the "painful" parts, being a good writer is rewarding and will get you ahead in life. takes a smart person to write well and people recognize it
