Is it normal to have 6 cavities?

I just got back from the dientist and they said I have 6 cavities! I don't know why nor how I have them I take good care of my teeth. Floss and brush every day. Also I don't eat much sweats. They said they were small cavities and not that bad, but still makes no sense to me. My younger brother never flosses his teeth and doesn't always brush them, but had NO cavities. Some tell me if this normal that I have 6 cavities?

Everyone's teeth are different. I'm 26 and eat a lot of sweets, but only had one cavity when I was 11. My younger brother is 22, eats less crap than I do and currently has three.

It really depends on where you grew up, to a large extent. Not to argue with the conspiracy theory nut jobs, but fluoridated water was not some government conspiracy to sterilize men, but actually one of the best government programs going to build strong, healthy teeth. Ever since people have started to drink bottled water, they don't get the Fluoride any more and their dental health is degenerating, quickly.
You can get Fluoride tablets at the pharmacy if you please, and start protecting your teeth, as I did for my daughter when we sailed around the world.

I totally agree with you about the fluoride, but it hadn't occurred to me that bottled water would lead to dental problems - now you've said it's obvious.

I drink a lot of tap water (fluoridated in most areas in Australia last century - mid-70's to my vague recollection) and filter it myself for drinking & cooking, even though the water here is supposed to be one of the purest in the world. It does taste a bit different, but not as different as outback bore water did, I found it hard to get that stuff down my throat even after filtering.

  • My parents never took me to the dentist when I was growing up. When I finally had money and insurance to take myself I went. I ended up having a lot of cavities and having to get a crown. I also took care of my teeth brushed regularly and flossed/mouth wash.

    • It's because a good dentist will physically pick away the tartar on your teeth that brushing and flossing won't get to. I don't trust doctors really, but I do go to the dentist twice a year.

Well you shouldn't eat sweat at all. Sweets are good, though.

Drink milk. It's good for bones and stuff.

Normal. I take good care of my teeth, they're pretty white, straight, I floss almost every day, brush 2-3 times a day and don't eat a lot of sweets. I hadn't been to a dentist in two years and I also had 6 cavities. It's a pain in the ass but it's normal.

"Also I don't eat much sweats." No offense but this line is funny.
