Is it normal to have an obscene vocabulary?

Hello. I've been wondering what are you guys thinking about an obcene and dirty vocabulary. I talk like that to my close friends and my parents. My parents dont seem to mind whenever I insult them. This is the way I was raised and yeah you could say my family is a crazy one. However they dont allow me to speak like that to other people not even to my friends and they put a lot of emphasis on school and learning and also teaching me being civilized with everyone. However me and my friends are insulting each other, making bad jokes, pranks and no one seems to care or getting upset and we're having fun. Despite the fact I seem a shy, courteous and quite girl I have a very foul mouth. The worst part is that my parents found out. My mom heard me while I was talking to phone with a friend of mine and I was saying something bad about my friend's mom something like: ''Is your mom getting laid tonight?" (we make a lot of mama jokes) I cant reproduce all the words because they are very offensive. My mom went nuts and she was very dissapointed of me because she wasnt expecting me to talk like that to other people but in family. There are plenty others funny (to you probably) and embarrasing situations I've went through with other stangers because of swearing and cursing.I dont know what to do. Should I change or stay the same? Do you also show no respect towards your parents and close friends? Thanks for reading my story and I am looking forward to reading your comments and advice.

I don't swear a lot but, around people who find it funny, I can trip sexual puns off the top of my head in no time. The ex used to be very amused by such things (at a restaurant, she once wrote the C word with her peas and sent the plate back to the kitchen like that). I can't think of a good example, it tends to be spontaneous. Oh, actually, I do have an example. We watching Star Trek and I said all the series titles were based around innuendo. Star Trek: The Sex Generation, Star Trek: Vagina, Star Trek: Deep Throat Nine, and Star Trek: Intercourse. It was that episode of Voyager where they went back to 20th century Earth and Tuvok ill-advisedly dressed as a rapper. I said, "Oh look, it's Tuvok Shakur". And then Sarah Silverman came on the screen and I shut the hell up because I love Sarah Silverman to little itty bits of Sarahness.

  • Some people just can't help themselves not to swear, for instance Gordon Ramsay.

Well I know there was this one fellow here. Did nothing but rage and cuss. Apparently they were American and to add relevance to their argument kept saying how they hated Englishmen and that him being American apparently made him always right. He used the term "englishmen".

I was really annoyed by his excessive cussing and the fact all he was doing was angrily ranting and being a racist. I don't really think racism should be the reason for an argument. I know not all Americans are stupid but starting to lose faith in the country because of this type of bullshit.

I try to not judge people but I starting to believe if you are really from the US you probably want to shoot yourself dealing with these type of fuckfaces.

I'm really bad for stuff like that. Like my friends are 90% guys and they class me as one of the guy as i don't care about being rude or things like that. I don't care about burping or farting. I make ALOT of rude jokes sometimes offensive. I swear too much. But that's only around my friends and family. I don't swear at people i don't known unless they're rude to me.

"Obscene" language doesn't imply a lack of respect, manners, or sophistication. It's simply another style of communication. One that can often be pretty damn funny.

People who get on your ass about this are simple, dull creatures. They don't even know why they find such language offensive. Only because they were raised that way. I don't know about you, but I can't respect the opinions of someone who doesn't think for themselves or know why they believe what they do.

Well, I wish my parents were still alive, but I respected them to the fullest. Once when I was a teen I said the word, hell. My mom came unglued.

Anyway, I don't mind a cuss word now and then, just as long as it's not your main vocabulary.

    Ah hell, damn it anyway......
