Is it normal to have anxiety attack after iv`e had a root canal?

I`m normally quite a laid back sort of person, but the other day I spent over an hour getting root canal done on an infected tooth. Iv`e had 2 anxiety attacks since, & one before the treatment. I`m not normally scared of the dentist, but I`ll be needing a couple more treatments, & I`m wondering if I`ll get panicky again.Could the way I feel just be the result of worrying about the treatment, or could something else be going on?

I fainted the last time I was at the dentist and the guy felt so sorry for me. He talked to me like a child and gently caressed my forehead. He was a really nice guy.

The same thing happened to me 18 months ago, I came out of the dentist shaking like a leaf. It`s a relief to know I`m not the only one.

I have a friend who has this exact same issue. I'm not sure -why- this happens but I do know that it happens.
Also, once an anxiety attack happens, it's the fear of having another one, that causes more to happen. It's a vicious cycle but you can over come it.

It could be that you are developing a phobia (of either dentists, pain, surgery, etc) or that the appointments/procedure are triggering something in your brain, like a lost memory. If the anxiety keeps persisting I think it would be a good idea to consult a therapist.

    -Good Luck!

I don't see how the operation could leave some effect that makes you anxious but I'm not a doctor. I would just forget about it and stick to your usual routine.
