Is it normal to have no idea what your plans are for the future?

I just graduated out of high school and now currently enrolled in a community college. I have put some thought into it but I have no idea in what to major in. Every so often, I would come across somebody who would ask me what are my plans and what I am majoring in, then I would always feel ashamed and unsure. Even when I ask my friends, they seem to have everything planned out. So I feel left out and a little ashamed of myself. Is this normal?

    • But no, it's normal. All of us start off lost in life, to one degree or another.

You're not alone. Good thing that you are going to community college though. If you were this confused at a University, you'd be paying off the debt for your lack of decisiveness for years and years to come.

I started at Community College 2 years ago under the impression that I was going to get a Criminal Justice degree until I realized through both life experience and some GREAT counsel that getting a Business Degree, while it would be much more difficult, would open up a lot more in the way of career options than a CJ degree would and that many of the career options that come with a CJ degree would still be open to me. Not to mention, a lot of the classes I am taking now will help me get a different degree should I ever want to go back to school to get another degree. Most likely, I will be going to community college for another year and a half but I feel as if I have a more well-rounded education because of it.

You're young. I am young. Take classes that you feel may interest you, as I did. Challenge yourself and enjoy school. Do it while you still have the time and energy to do so. 10 years from now, you'll probably have a job and a family and it will be 10x as difficult to get the degree that you may want. You're not alone, it took me two years to figure out exactly what degree that I wanted but doing something is better than doing nothing and you can't go wrong with getting an education for community college rates.

You'll probably regret going to college then. Do you REALIZE how much money it costs???

Hell, my husband went to a one year specialty school for Auto and Diesel mechanics. He'll be paying that debt for TEN YEARS. The real kicker is that he didn't even NEED to go to school for his career, he found out that he could have just apprenticed for someone, and get PAID for it!!!

    Think harder.

Perfectly normal...you will keep question this as life goes on too..even when you start working or go to university, you will still keep wondering if this is what you truly wanted..don't be ashamed :)
