Is it normal to have sex whilst the cat is on the bed?

Our cat has taken to sleeping on the end of the bed. My partner tries to have sex with me but it makes me uncomfortable. He says it's fine because that cat doesn't know. Of course I know that the cat doesn't know but I still feel awkward. I know I can just chuck the cat out of the room but I feel mean when he's all curled up, happy, comfortable and sleeping. I don't want him to feel lonely either.
So am I over exaggerating? is it normal to have sex whilst your cat, or even your dog, is in the same room?

    If you feel uncomfortable with it, you don't have to do it. You could move your cat, though. It's not like cats have a really hard time sleeping.

    I had a girlfriend whose cat used to groom her by licking her hair (on her head, just for the sake of not exciting certain IINers). I really didn't like the idea of the cat doing that while we were having sex. It would have felt like a threesome.

    I'd prefer not to have sex in the presence of animals but I have done. The awkward thing is when they think it's a game and want to start playing.

    The cat knows. But just because it knows, doesn't mean it cares. Although I once had a cat that often peed on my husbands clothes when we were having sex. He was a bit territorial.

        I wouldn't worry about it. The cat probably thinks your showering habit is much more disturbing.

        Quite the opposite. He peed on the belongings of people who were in my space. We often joked that the cat was my lover in a past life.
