Is it normal to have such a hard time falling asleep?

I often find myself staying up more than a few hours past when I needed to be asleep, to the point where I'm totally exhausted and paranoid.
I don't know why this is, or what I can do to stop it..
I'm not taking in anymore stimulants than what I usually take in, and this is a fairly recent problem.

Google something like "fall asleep relaxation techniques". You should find a few things to try.

Do you use your bed only for sleep? Or do you read, browse the internet, do homework, etc in your bed? I used to do all that and I always had a hard time sleeping at night. Once I stopped doing all that, sleep became easier and quicker. Just an idea.

I noticed after smoking weed it puts me to sleep faster and I sleep better. I usually lay in bed while watching tv and most of the time it helps put me to sleep.

If relaxing music doesn't help, you could try relaxing sounds like rain or Tibetan bowls. YouTube has tons of relaxing sounds. Just steer clear of the chirping birds. They will drive you mad.

It's rare I fall asleep without laying there for hours first, then getting annoyed that I can't sleep which in itself wakes me up even more though, recently a relaxing Spotify playlist has been helping me get off to sleep as well as a night time jog before bed, also a bath helps, the gradual falling of your body temperature after you get out makes you feel more sleepy

Mixing them together, Night jog, followed by bath followed by relaxing music helps me a lot

It usually takes me a while to fall asleep too. I might try melatonin. I'm not down with prescriptions.

  • I have this same issue mine resulting from my mind not shutting off when it's time to go to bed. I tried prescribed sleep aids which ultimately just made things worse. I find that taking melatonin which you can get anywhere really helps. Getting rid of any environmental stimulants as well. It doesn't always help but I find I get to sleep faster and sleep longer now.
