Is it normal to have the tv on while browsing the internet?

I know I could play music while surfing the internet, but it's not the same as TV background noise. is it normal to have everything going at once?

Its normal. Tv sucks so bad these days. You got that fake ass Muary Povich. He acts like he's trying to help someone but if you look at his face you can tell he enjoys what he hears. And dont get me started on Judge Judy. I call her Judge Bitchy

This is my observation of TV.
Morning news crews try too hard. They're trying to be fun and fake force laugh to get you going for the morning.
Daytime tv is filled with nasty welfare ridden underaged breeders dancing all over Maury's stage. It's more for stay at home wine drinking cougars oogling over young talk show guests from twilight or some no name bimbo that became famous overnight for no reason. Finally getting a dose of that day's new wieghtloss and cancer curing miracle from Dr. Oz.
Primetime television....all it is are shows about gays (no offense it's just all the same), unrealistic crime and doctor shows...OH! Someone's dying with a mystery disease and is saved by a docotor who chooses to disobey protocol? THEY SURVIVED? NO WAY!
I usually keep the TV off until the news comes on...like it helps. Here it comes!! Obama this, Romney that! The economy is bad, the economy economy economy! NO SHIT SHERLOCK! It's only been going on for the past 10 years!!
You better buckle up! Here comes the exciting weather! Time to tell you what the weather was like today, incase you didn't notice when you walked outside. Then they patronize some crappy iphone sunset shot from some overly excited viewer. Then they predict the future! Hot today, hotter tomorrow! Oooo aaaaahhh *gasp with astonishment*! Oh and another wildfire fire is burning down some poor person's mansion. If you want to donate more money on top of their insurance claim, go to wellsfargo.com and search "rich guy donation".
*Red and white dramatic swirly screen transition* Bam! SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS!! Then a fancy song!! duh duh dummm At this point I'm frantically digging for the remote in the dark trying to change it before I have to hear about JIMMER or LABRON or someone having to sit out making $200,000 for that one game becaue of an injury. FINALLY!!!!!!! The whole reason you've been staying up late! A 35 second spot on how a deer was sitting on someones front lawn. THAT WAS IT?!!

      FIN

I can't watch tv without having my iPhone near me and check out web forums etc regularly.

I do it all the time and it's worrying me. At the weekend, I was playing a game (with a web browser open in the background), had the TV open with PiP (watching two channels at the same time), and still picked up my phone to play a game on that too because I felt understimulated.

I am genuinely worried about myself.

I do the same. It keeps me company as well as pass the time.

Only if it's a funny TV show. Sometimes I'm on the Internet but I can still focus on what the TV is playing and hear good jokes.

It's sort of sad, isn't it? We're obsessed with easy stimulation.
