Is it normal to have vision problems and sleep more after anesthesia?

June 23, 2015 my 76 yo very active brother fell and broke his hip. Dr. put on morphine drip until surgery on June 28. When he awoke after surgery had terrible headache and was so confused nurses asked me if he had dementia. 2 days later sent to inpatient rehab for 1 wk. Started having double and blurry vision and more headaches. He made fast recovery and was up and walking before most men his age and staff was impressed. Sent to my house for recovery and Home Health for 2 weeks. Dr. released him at the end of the 2 wks. He suffered from insomnia before surgery and only slept 2 to 4 hrs night and now he falls asleep all during the day and will nap for 2-3 hrs. and is sleeping 9 hrs. at night. Double vision comes and goes and he is always tired although he walks every day and is in good physical health. During this time he has also started having periods of going blank and won't be able to name the food in front of him. This isn't every day and takes a couple of hours to go away. Any ideas what is going on or who he needs to see as his Dr. doesn't seem to care or doesn't believe him.

HI, I have the same problems after I had two ops with general anasthesia. I am being investigated for ME now (post op). It might as well be that your brother has the same problem considering his age and circumstances. Is definitely worth investigating. There is lots of info on the web so maybe you can find a checklist and talk to your doctor after looking at it with your brother.
