Is it normal to hold my breathe as long as i can before i go to bed?

Okay so I have a sort of habit when before I go to bed I hold my breathe as long as I can till I feel pain I find it very pleasing and makes me happy for quite a while I try not doing this but I cant help myself I just love the feeling of it and also I love feeling like almost dying for suffocation sometimes if I don't it I feel so sad and miserable and on the edge of suicide, maybe doing this makes be feel close to dying. Also I don't think I got depression because when I do it I don't feel like dying.

When the brain is deprived of oxygen, it can induce a lucid, semi-hallucinogenic state called hypoxia.

Not sure you're reaching that, but maybe you're on the edge.

As long as you're just breathing naturally and then holding your breath, that's fine. Even if you manage to do it until you black-out, your body will start breathing on its own when you're unconscious.

    Two important considerations, though.

First, using something to strangle yourself is extremely dangerous. Quite a few people have accidentally killed themselves by doing this, even though they thought they had a system which would release them when they blacked out.

Second, hyperventilating and then holding your breath can be very dangerous. Hyperventilating reduces the carbon dioxide levels in your blood. A high CO2 level in the blood is what triggers the breathing reflex. So hyperventilating and then holding your breath could be fatal, since your brain would see no reason to trigger a breath.

"Normal" in the sense that more than 50% of people do it?

No, it's not normal. I've never known anyone who did it and I've never before heard of someone doing it.

        Congratulations - you're different.
