Is it normal to imagine familiar places and/or people when reading?

The whole point to reading, for me, is to get away from the mundane and the familiar. However, whenever I read, I find that I have a tendency to imagine familiar places and people unless I force myself to do otherwise. Does anyone else do this?

    When I read a book, the characters house is my house. All the time
