Is it normal to install video cameras in student accommodation?

I understand many landlords record CCTV in bedrooms and bathrooms etc. of student dorms as required by insurance companies. As I own the property wouldn't this would be reasonable to expect in this day and age?

Put a wireless camera with infrared inside the front of your underwear and broadcast it over the Wi-Fi system. Tell everyone that the insurance company made you do it.
That makes about as much sense as your question.

Recording someone in secret is illegal. Plus morally wrong. You wouldn't want to be spied on either.

Perfectly reasonable. It helps with solving crime and preventing suspicious behaviour.

I don't think you'd find many tenants if you were honest with them about this and if you weren't surely that would be illegal
