Is it normal to keep busy all night?

The things I do at night are mental activities, I sleep all day due to staying up at night. To relax better at night I listen to the radio while doing my work. These mental activities include writing and writing philosophy, which is necessary for philosophers: they have to burn the midnight oil writing books, and that's after work. Philosophy books are not just books, they're books with arguments to make you believe the philosophy, even if the books are fiction. I'm currently working on the book 'normality', which is no easy task for me to write. I have to make the book feel as normal (and original) as possible, the challenge is to not use stereotypes. It's complicated, about as complicated as sex, except I'm more capable of doing it. To write about normality I have to separate the normal from a very different personality, learn to make the distinction and make sure to the subjective mind it's normal. 1. is staying up at night normal?, and 2. I find there's a lot of night owls. I need coffee (not that decaf crap!) to stay awake, coffee is made to keep you up at night, not the other way around, and I drink a lot of coffee. I'm nocturnal, I'm naturally up at night, that's the way my body developed after being a morning person, my body can't think of any spark in the day, I'm conscious the vital spark of my body isn't what it used to be. Is this normal?

I believe that it is normal, to an extent. Truth is, I'm a night owl too. The night just makes me feel calmer. I think it's because of the fact that at that time not alot of people are awake and all that active. It's calmer because at that time nobody expects much from you and vice versa. Working/being awake while the majority of the world is asleep is like zen because everything gets more quiet and listening to yourself gets easier.

Normal to an extent, that's good enough for me. How is this like zen? Isn't it more like being the only one up very late at night? Woohoo, I have my pocket radio! Normality's subjective because we all have different ideas of what's normal. My definition is simple: not original, identical to everyone else. :)

If you are naturally awake at night, there is no need for coffee. Sounds like you are trying to trick yourself.

Self deception will lead to troubles. It's normal, but destructive.

I've noticed certain normal things are pointless, destructive or worthless, but you'll never know the joy of normality until you plant your feet in the ground, metaphorically speaking.
