Is it normal to keep debating whether or not you should gesso canvas?

I'm trying to decide if I should gesso my Fredrix Pro-Series Belgian Linen canvas which is suitable for either oils or acrylics. They have already been gessoed but I'm not sure if I should add an extra coat of it to make it smoother. I'm just learning how to paint through tutorials so I'm unsure of what to do. Help a brother out.

Some one's going to say Jizz all over the canvas.

I guess you're just going to experiment and see what works for you. With pre-gessoed canvas I add an extra few layers. But you will find what works for you and what suits your style with experimentation. Some artists use oils on watercolour paper or on wood or metal. There aren't really any rules, just have to do what works for you.

You'd probably be better off asking an art forum. While I've worked with paints before, I've only used watercolour, that I can remember, and I never added any shiny coatings.

IIN isn't the place for this kind of question. Google some art tips or something. :)

There has to be some kind of artist chatroom/Q&A.
