Is it normal to laugh after cutting?

I've been a cutter since 6th grade, and I'm 20 now. (Yes, I know how society looks at it, I know I need to "seek help" and I know it makes absolutely NO sense to those of you who don't cut.) But anyway, I've used cutting as a way of coping and/or lashing out. (It's not to commit suicide nor a way to get attention.) Sometimes after cutting, I laugh. It seems almost involuntary. I was wondering if there were any other self harmers out there that have this experience?

Sounds like the cutting is a release for you. It's still not a good idea and I think it would serve you well to find some form of exercise and or creativity that would also give you a release.

Yes it's very normal. You've been cutting since the 6th grade and your 20 now, over the years you wouldn't feel pain and after awhile you'll be so used to the pain and it could make you laugh as well cause it's just funny I guess.

Not all self harmers are emo, lumping us all together and insulting us is whats fucked up. You probably know someone who does it or wants to kill themselves, lets say its your mother or even your partner/whatever-friend.
Would you still bitch like you do and call them an emo? NO so shut the fuck up with your ignorance and fuck off this page because no one here cares about anything you ever have to say.
Go enjoy being just another face in the crowd. We dont need things like you.

I laugh at pain, the more it hurts then the more i laugh but hurting myself rarely hurts anymore, so if I fall off a skateboard while going down a steep hill and smash all my elbow in then i'll laugh my ass off while getting back on the board, pain is after all only temporary

To those who don't cut -- and even to some who do -- one reason that cutting feels good for cutters is not so much the pain of the cut, though there are many who actually enjoy that. What many others enjoy is the feeling of escape when the pain starts to fade, a euphoria that it's over, that they were "victorious" against the pain.

Yeah it's normal for us fucks. Same age, same length of time.

I laugh, take pics everything. My recent cuts are my phone lock screen background. I love the look of mutilated skin whether its mine or someone elses.

When you've been self harming for so long especially when its one of very few coping mechanisms you know, it can become something you almost enjoy.

Overdosing has been my thing, but cutting is more artistic.

I dont.know wether to be glad i'm not alone in my view of cutting or be disturbed at how bad it sounds coming from someone else..

Loss of oxygen can cause people to act delirious among other things. There's oxygen in your blood cells. Loss of blood in general can have a variety of side effects as well.

Seems normal to me. I laugh if I get hurt or fall. Its just an automatic reaction and also a defense mechanism.

Laughing is my automatic, default response to stress. When I cut, I used to laugh automatically, just because I was sad/confused and laughter is my way of expressing my emotions without showing them.. If that makes sense to anyone. To me it's normal to do so.

  • Yes and no. People cut for different reasons that even other cutters wouldn't understand, nor is understanding why one cuts limited to cutters themselves.

I would say it's not abnormal or normal, just a middle ground. I do it when I cut and after it when I'm watching the aftermath.
