Is it normal to leave out the best player in the countries history
The USA already have a group of "death" in the toughest group in the World cup. But The 23 Man roster for the USA was released today and it had one name notably missing.
Landon Donovan - the United States leading goal scorer. Admittedly he has lost a step since his hiatus from the National team, it save to say he is still better then 6 or 7 other players that did make the team. Including an unproven 18 year old Julian Green, that has one Game with the team.
The German Born Manager Jurgen Klinsmann has made huge progress with building the team up since he takeover of the team. But is this a case of what is the best for the team, to leave off a proven leader and experiencened player. Or should it be in Jurgen we trust?
What are your thoughts, either from an objective point of view, or as a football fan from any country. How would you feel if you "statistically" best player of your country's history, off the roster?
