Is it normal to leave the cats in storage room?

Whenever I have to go get something out of my storage room, my cats come running along and sneak into the room very quickly before I can shut the door. Then when it's time to go they have hidden somewhere so I just leave the room. 5-10 minutes later they are meowing and sticking their paws under the door trying to be let out.

When this happens I just ignore them for another 10-15 minutes because they should know better than to get locked in the room yet again. Why should I rush over to let them out? Fuck 'em.

IIN?

It won't hurt them for that amount of time. They might learn, but I doubt it.

Yes cats like to do this. This is normal and rather annoying habits. I would try putting him in a different room till you have to go in and out of the one he hides in. Just to ensure he is not stuck anymore.

Cats don't really understand punishment the way humans do, they won't know what you're punishing them for unless you actually catch them in the act. I doubt it's going to seriously traumatize them but it probably won't teach them anything either. Why not just leave the door open when you leave?

    • I don't do it to punish them, I do it because it feels good for me.

I can't leave the door open because the room is unheated.

Why not leave the door open and let them get out?

At least you're not beating them or putting them in sacks like the fucking psycho in that other story here.

I hope that isn't giving you ideas :/

Maybe leaving them in there can be a certain "time out" for them. It might teach them not to go in there anymore. They're probably just doing it out of plain old curiosity though, so be nice. ^_^
