Is it normal to let social angst stop me"?

I was invited to a party in which about 10 people were attending, three of which I knew, two of which were my friends, and neither i was close to. Is it normal of me to not want to go because of social angst?

Yea im like this. I usually shy away from these situations though. Like this 4th of july my boss is having a cookout, and so is a close friend of mine. The cookout my boss has is regarded as 'the party of the year' with many new people to meet. I can take the easy road and go to my friends cookout where I know mostly everyone. Or I can break out of my shell and meet new people and expand. I want to break the cycle but who knows what i'll do, we'll see lol.

I get like this sometimes before social occasions I'm obligated to. I have learned that if I just go ahead and make myself go anyway, I'll have a good time when I'm there.
