Is it normal to let tea brew in the kitchen instead of taking it with you?

A friend of mine really likes tea but he has a habit I just don't understand. During discord conversations he often disappeares to get himself some tea. But instead of taking his mug back to his room, he let's it brew in the kitchen, just to disappear five minutes later because he still has his tea in the kitchen. That can't be normal, right? Why would anyone do that?

    Does he brew a whole pot? Or does he let a mug sit on the counter

    It literally takes 10-15 seconds to steep a single mug, and I'd say 5 minutes for a kettle
