Is it normal to like old video games better than new ones?

I enjoy the NES more than any other console. But I am so tired of hearing modern gamers screaming about how they think CoD is so awesome. My BEST friend however, thinks the opposite. I just don't understand why "hardcore" modern gamers drive to GameStop at midnight just to get a game they will stop playing in a week. That's one thing I like though, I don't have to hear them going on about a game for long, as soon as the next game comes out, they have completely forgot abot the game they played the week before. One week it's BLT (BF3) the next week, it's "skyrim".

    I personally think a lot of games nowadays are very good. You just have to know where to look.

    Yes, it is normal to feel that way. Personally, I like new video games and I like old video games too. Retro video games are great! You can't beat the classics, and after all, they are the ones that started everything.

    If you don't know what it is already, definitely look into emulation. http://www.emuparadise.me/ is a great website for emulators and ROMs and http://www.motioninjoy.com/ is what I use as a driver for my PS3 controller so I can hook it up to my laptop and use it as a game-pad. With a little perseverance, you should be able to figure out how to get everything working like you want it and if you have any problems, the forums on those websites will help you out.

    The best thing about emulation is that it's free!

    Eh, every now and then a new game is really good. I think a lot of the old ones had a lot more love and time put into them, though.

    I have not met 1 single person that got bored with Skyrim after a single week, however.

      Not funny. Certainly not offensive, the Hitler offensive role isn't that offensive anymore, but certainly not funny.

    I loved my super NES and N64. I don't even play the new consoles. I play some PC games. Can't stand X-Box controls. Can't afford to blow money on a Playstation 3 or 4 or whatever they are on now. And even if I could I couldn't afford the games.

    I always loved the old game systems too. The new gaming console that they are coming out with for nintendo looks rather ridiculous in my thoughts. They are putting too much into it, it looks hard and complex.

    I love the old Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 the most. Although I don't mind the Gamecube and my 3DS. I also do play some games with my brothers on their Playstation 3; like Little Big Planet and Uncharted.

    My favourite console of all time is the n64 or possibly the GameCube and yes while I do still love to have a go on mariokart or smash brothers melee from time to time it doesn't mean that I can't play on and enjoy skyrim, I play on nearly every new game released and while some of them are not worth £5 let alone £40 there are others that I would happily pay a lot more for. Get a couple of buddy's round and a crate of beer and COD online is fantastic.

    Battlefield 3 looks pretty fun if you have a gaming pc, same with Skyrim because of mods. Hoping something actually cool is shown at E3 this year, otherwise it looks like it's just going to be more sequels.

    The problem is that new games are too short. I finish most new FPS games in about 6 hours, older ones kept me entertained for weeks.
    All the energy of the developers goes into awesome graphics rather than making the game reasonably long nowdays.
    I only have a PC and my oldest games are from 1999. (so, none of that really old stuff)

    You can't beat the old Sonic the Hedgehog games, Golden Axe, or Streets of rage for the Sega.

    Alot of games today are very good, though.

      Those games still stand up today. It's a shame nobody thinks to write games in that format but with modern graphics.
