Is it normal to lose one's faith after a personal tragedy ?

After being inflicted by a horrible illness; A freak virus, which turned very aggressive and caused major paralysis with no real chance of recovery.

Is it normal to lose one's faith (for that reason) and no longer believe in god?

There is no such thing as god. You can find great comfort in knowledge of the real world. Try to read more and you'll be happy you did. Dying ignorant is not the way to go out.

Normal. God didn't step in to help, so why believe in an asshole.

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

P.s, in the bible there was no such things as dinosaurs, why is there remains of them? fuck god lol idc if its offending but its just a fairy tale haha

If there was a god, he would be a bitch because he lets KIDS starve to death everyday and doesn't prevent all the horrible things that happen in this world. my mother lost her dad who she was close to because his childhood bestfriend killed him over a thousand dollars he had on him. Why the fuck would god create fucked up people, why would he let 911 happen, why would he allow everything horrible that has happened to the world, why the fuck does he allow people to be really depressed to the point of pure pain causing teenagers and adults to kill themsevles, if there was a god, in my opinion there wouldnt be so much sadness in our world, GOD IS A MYTH OR A FAIRY TALE, not true lol

My neighbour lost her faith after her dad died but I don't really understand that. She kept saying, "Why me?" well I say, "Why not me?" when things happen. Her dad couldn't live until he was ten thousand years old!?

Anyway, I went deaf last year after my dad died of cancer and my cousin said, "Do you not sit and think every day, why me?" Whaaaat!!! No I bloody don't!

Rather me than a single parent with 6 kids to provide for!

I'm a great believer in 'That which doesn't kill us will only make us stronger'.

Much worse things happen to other people. You'll be fine and I'm sure once you stop feeling anger / self-pity your faith will return.

    Good luck.

With all due respect, you cant really trust this site for a sound, level opinion as it is filled to the brim with vehement, militant athiests. I will say it is normal, but dont give up so easily. Explore other areas of your faith, or new faiths entirley. Remember, though: not everyone needs religion, but it can certainly help in times like these.

I was born with a few physical defects and was bullied my entire school career but of course stupid theists will insist that I have no right to self-pity and should be grateful for my shitty life I never wanted in the first place. I hate theists' lack of logic and reason and shitty irrational arguments to keep fitting square pegs in round holes. THERE IS NO BLOODY GOD, K?

For Stephen Hawking to believe in no God because of his illness is one of the worst decisions he ever made. Something he was so close to and someday wake up in a firy hell. I would not take chances if you even think heaven may be real.

No matter what don't give up hope or faith that God does not love you. It is said that trials bring you closer to God and that they are testings. Hell is definitely a place you don't want to go to. When you go through hard things it shows that your human. Jesus didn't have it perfect. His two best friends died(he cried), people spit and beat him, his favorite buddy John was killed, demons screamed in his face, and etc. Jesus came so that he would live as humans did and show that God is not just a strong man in the air but a guy thats interested in us. He healed the sick and the lame and the blind.

  • Fairly normal. But your life is your own.

Even when your being is screaming out against something, you always have the choice to disregard what you feel.

Guillain-Barré syndrome which was not diagnosed in time.

Occurred after many days of flu like symptoms. Plasma exchange (see below) should have been done right away which offers great chance of full recovery over a few weeks.

      Check the link with related fact sheet with more related info;

      http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/gbs/detail_gbs.htm

"Currently, plasma exchange (also called plasmapheresis) and high-dose immunoglobulin therapy are used. Both of them are equally effective, but immunoglobulin is easier to administer. Plasma exchange is a method by which whole blood is removed from the body and processed so that the red and white blood cells are separated from the plasma, or liquid portion of the blood. The blood cells are then returned to the patient without the plasma, which the body quickly replaces. Scientists still don't know exactly why plasma exchange works, but the technique seems to reduce the severity and duration of the Guillain-Barré episode. This may be because plasmapheresis can remove antibodies and other immune cell-derived factors that could contribute to nerve damage."
