Is it normal to love my pet fish this much?

Okay so I have a pet Betta Fish. He is like the most beautiful fish alive. I have about one year and a half with him and his name is Phineas. I stare at him for hours, always make sure he is okay, worry about him when I'm not home, worry if he looks sad and I don't know, a lot more things. I have this fear of him dying and me not knowing what to do without him. He is like my best friend. I talk to him, he lets me touch him and he even plays around with my finger. My parents think I "exaggerate" too much. I just LOVE HIM he is like my best friend my everything. I waste practically all my money in buying him new things and all. I would even give my life for him if necessary. Is this normal?

I had a Beta fish named Neptune. He was a beautiful violet color and he pretty much did what phineas did. I always checked on him when I woke up late at night and covered his tank with a blanket during cold winter nights. One day I cleaned his tank and filled it with some more new water and put the solution in and let it do its thing. I guess the solution didn't work well, when I put him in the water about a day later he had this red lump in his eye and it just grew everyday for a week. It was so sad seeing him like that, I checked on him every night before I went to bed and late at night. He started eating less and less and moving slower. One night I was so tired I didn't check to see if he was okay. The next morning he was gone :( it was so sad, but he live a full one and a half years :') and I'm happy for that. I know his little fishy Angel is swimming around happy now.

You're not exaggerating :) you just love your fish don't stop doing that.

How are you going to look after a fish when you're a dragon?

Giving your life for it is a bit too far don't you think? I have a pet fish in my room, but I don't get how you can actually 'love' it. If the fish died I would think it's a pity because I'm used to it, not because I actually feel love for it. It are really passive animals. But I think it's normal, like there are people who are very attached to objects (although loving your fish is more normal, because it's a living creature).

Normal. Loving your pet is a beautiful thing. It's a bond that nothing else can replace.

I had a purple Beta fish named Purpley. His name was that because well he's purple plus I have a rare natraul eye color purple.

It's very normal, the only problem is the lifespan of a fish isn't long and it would be better to get a animal that can live longer to give you the continued bonding.

I agree. For example Giant African Land Snails are good, and a require a similar level of maintenance to a fish. They live 5 to 10 years, so longer than your average fish.

Be surprised a life span of a fish can last a lot longer than you think, I had fish live up to 5 years in age, sadly though one night my ex prick of a girlfriend pushed the tank over in a wrestle with my stupid lil. sister over a simple Christmas present I had bought for both of them.
(related to actual question) This is normal to an extent of which she looks at the fish for hours, if I was a fish that would generally creep me the hell out.

I'm sorry for what happened to your fish. I would honestly have broken up with my boyfriend if he dropped Phineas' tank.

Get a 2nd fish and you won't have to worry about him being lonely.

That might not be a good idea. If the op got another male fish, they'd try to kill each other. If the op got a female fish, he'd wind up with way too many fish.

Yeah totally:p I remember when I first got him I put him with a Betta which I thought was a female but it turned out she wasn't. Yeah things got bad...
But he is nit lonely anymore though. I put two African Dwarf Frogs and 3 ghost shrimp with him.

I read African Dwarf Frogs and had to comment. I don't know if you already know this but you have to be careful when putting those frogs in with a fish you really love. They're known for eating fish in the same aquarium as them. I had a Red Tailed Shark that I had for 2 years. She meant so much to me but one day my African Dwarf Frog ate her ):
