Is it normal to need something written on my left hand?

I'm a disorganized mess. Even when I find a notebook or something to keep track of things with I'll just forget that.

For years I have been writing important notes on my left hand (since I'm right handed). I'll bring a pen into the bathroom so that if whatever was written on my hand washes off, I can rewrite over it.

But sometimes (especially on vacation) I have nothing important to remember. My hand will be clean from pen marks.

I've grown to like those pen marks. Because of this, I will think up a stupid reason to need to remember something and write it on my hand, just so something's there.

I'm not sure how to stop this. It looks entirely unprofessional. Is this normal?

tl;dr: I'm very forgetful, so I leave important notes on my left hand. But even when I have nothing to remember, I still have to have something written on my hand, for comfort reasons.

It's just a habit, stop worrying about nothing

    • Also, read the tl;dr (too long; didn't read) version at the bottom if you are too lazy to read the whole thing.

I'd appreciate it if you'd stop labelling me as being confused and now lazy: I am neither and I choose not to continue any more pointless dialogue with you - I have much better things to do with my time and energy

    • Again, I would like point out that the habit itself is not what I am talking about. If you actually read what I wrote then you would know that I'm worried about the fact that I NEED something written on my left hand for comfort reasons.

The words on my left hand are the equivalent of a security blanket given to I child. Not what is written, just WORDS. Any words.

I don't know why this is so confusing for some people.

I'm not confused: if I change the word "habit" to obsession would you be happier with that? Either way it seems fairly harmless to me, but if you're concerned get some therapy

    • Hm. Well if you are being sarcastic, then you clearly have not read the full explanation or you do not understand what I am talking about.

I've already had to explain this to two other commenters. Why don't you read my replies to them (because I'm tired of repeating myself.

If your not being sarcastic then your stupid. Well, you've certainly been no help either way. So whatever.

There are tons of memory improving exercises on the web. If you are young, it would greatly improve your life to improve this skill.

I read it. I didn't care to give advice about writing on yourself.
I said what I wanted to. Sorry it wasn't what you wanted to hear.

    • Poster: Well yes, that is an issue. But I'm actually a bit more worried about that fact that I NEED to have something written on my left hand. The writing on my left hand is like a security blanket.
