Is it normal to not be able to sleep the night before a big rugby game

Every night before a big rugby game I lie on bed thinking about what I am about to do in the game e.g tackles, tactics and I get so mentally prepared for the game that I can't possibly sleep. I tried to tell myself to forget about the game and just go to sleep but none will help not even closing my eyes will help. I went to bed at 9pm but it took me until 1am to fall asleep (Yes I know that is 4 hours), I woke up pretty early and I wasn't tired at all. IIN?/

Most definitely normal. You just need to be able to shut your mind down for awhile if you want to be able to sleep.

Yep, I've had the same thing happen before running races, mountain bike races, big events at work... Perfectly normal, and a total pain in the ass. Sometimes I'll take a couple benadryl about an hour before bed to help me sleep through the night, but try it on a non-game night because it makes some folks groggy all day.
