Is it normal to not be able to write with a gel pen?

I'm left-handed, and I like the way that gel pens look on paper, but they always get on the side of my hand and smudge my writing. Does anyone else have this problem?

    Exactly, i'm a lefty, and I can't use ballpoint pens or gel pens because 1.) Ink gets all over my hand. And 2.) It smears everywhere.

    you just have to be real quick with it to prevent smudging. :)

    I am left handed also and have this same problem with the sharpie fine point pens. They don't dry quick enough just like a gel pen.

    I'm a righty and quite artistic but I can't seem to master the gel pen either. I've tried several times because, as you said, it looks good, but I don't know how people get it to look that way. Mine always glops and smudges no matter what kind of gel pen I use. Dunno why.
