Is it normal to not care if i get pregnant?

Me and my boyfriend wanted to have sex for the first time, because every time we see each other, we get incredibly turned on and he gets a boner absolutely every time. We were actually planning on having sex this weekend because that's the only time he has off this week.. but then he told me he doesn't want to because he doesn't want to get me pregnant.. is it normal that I still said I want to do it even if I could get pregnant? I really don't care at this point. I just want to have sex and not even worry about getting pregnant, but my boyfriend is incredibly concerned that I'll get pregnant. Is this normal???

By the way, I'm 18 and he's 20.... if that helps..

Young people SEVERELY UNDERESTIMATE just how DIFFICULT, TIRING AND EXPENSIVE PARENTHOOD CAN BE!

I raised my siblings and it was the most difficult thing I have ever done. Don't believe the shit you see on TV. All of the cuddly, loving, heart warming moments that occur before the child is old enough to feed themselves and poo in the toilet are so few and far between. It is difficult, so difficult, and it pushes many of even the most sane and maternal women to the brink of insanity.

It was a *godsend* to have been dating a man who was willing to take my brother off my hands so I could SHOWER, PEE AND EAT. Yes, that's right, I am saying that if you are staying at home with the baby, you will *have* to neglect your own needs quite frequently. After all, someone is GOING to have to work to support the both of you. And health insurance, dear God, hopefully the two of you have health insurance to lower the maternity costs. Health insurance IS expensive.

EVERY young mother that I know has told me that if they could go back in time and do it all over again, they would not have even had the sex to begin with. It's difficult, difficult work and something that you must be truly dedicated to from the beginning to get any real happiness from.

PLEASE, while you have the chance, WRAP IT UP.

I think you will start to worry when you have a baby and all the responsibilities that come along with having one.

What country are you from that doesn't sell contraceptives?

    Comment Hidden ( show )

    • Um.. it's not that there's none sold... it's just the fact of one of us actually getting one =P I hate the word "condom" (saying it, not typing it) so it's kind of hard to suggest it when I don't even like saying it =P

lol You think the fact that you're horny and he gets a boner, is a good reason to have sex...? The reason he is worried about you getting pregnant is because a baby grows up to a child and the child grows up to be a teenager then to an adult. Thats a life long commitment.

There are places in the world where it would be difficult for an unmarried couple to get a condom.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
            -
          • TerryVie

while true, those same places it would also be unseemly for a unmarried man and women to spend time together alone.
Aside, in those countries marriage often takes place at a younger age, so chances are high they would KNOW a married couple they could ask to provide them with a condom.

Third, they seem to have free access to the internet, many online stores(including e.g. big players like amazon) have condoms in stock and send in neutral packaging.

So all in all, i don't see the reasoning of "it's too difficult to get a condom" as very reasonable.

Why doesn't he go and get the condom / Durex - whatever you want to call them.

I had my first child at 32yo and trust me when I tell you that NeuroNeptunian is NOT exaggerating! In fact, I don't know how my son is still alive. He cried constantly and I never got a full night's sleep until he was 6yo and even then he started his day at 5am. I also developed a blood clot in my leg and he was premature and was in intensive care. I was married 8 years and it almost broke my marriage.

Please don't take this decision too lightly, you are in fantasy land if you think it is ok.

        For your info:

The government calculated the cost of raising child . . .
. . . from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about sticker shock. That doesn't even touch college tuition. For those with kids, that figure leads to wild fantasies about all the things we could have bought, all the places we could have traveled, all the money we could have banked

if not for (insert child's name here). For others, that number might confirm the decision to remain childless.

        But $160,140 isn't so bad if you break it down. It translates into $8,896.66 a year, $741.38 a month or $171.08 a week. That's a mere $24.44 a day.

Just over a dollar an hour. Still, you might think the best financial advice says don't have children if you want to be rich.

I'm sure it does - although it's probably still relatively proportional.

There was once a major campaign to boycott Nestle products ... Nescafe, chocolate, etc. as they were giving powdered baby milk away for free in Third World countries, just until the mothers' milk dried up. Then they were charging the parents a ridiculous price for it - say 1-2 weeks wages.

If you guys were, and you wanted to have sex this badly, you would have taken a pill slapped on a condom and have had sex already. So my answer is, you are too young to be having sex. It isn't worth it, there are other things you guys can do to pleasure eachother.

Ok, for everyone [lc1988] that says I'm not mature enough for sex JUST because I don't like saying the word "condom," I'd like to take you back to kindergarten and inform you that it's just a word. I have a thing about words that sound weird. For example, I don't like saying the word "trim." My fiance was talking about how he wanted to 'trim' his facial hair, and I said that word and it just sounded really weird to me. I didn't like saying it. Does that mean I'm not mature?? NO! It just means that I have a funny thing with words.. So please drop the case.

Ps. I would really appreciate it if everyone would stop hating me. We didn't have sex, ok? We agreed that we wanted to wait till we were married, and it's settled at that. So please stop getting mad at me.

Waiting until marriage (and nothing else) is generally an even worse idea... what if your future husband is impotent, gay or terrible in bed? Or all three?!
You wouldn't know until it's too late!

If you HAPPEN to find someone who you'd be willing to be shackled to for the rest of your life and you HAPPEN to not feel ready for sex until marriage, then by all means do so.

Otherwise, just cool off sex and relationships, wait until you are sure you love the other person AND THEY GENUINELY love you back... AND TRY EACH OTHER OUT BEFORE MARRIAGE!
