Is it normal to not cry when someone else is crying?

If my wife or my children cry over something sad or something that’s upsetting them, I have a slow reaction to it. I do hug and try to console the best way I can, but I can’t feel their pain or sadness. I’m very blank - faced and dry. I just hold them until they stop. I’m also a woman. Is this normal?

Just because you express sadness or upset feelings in a different way doesn't mean you're not empathizing with them when you try to comfort them. There's no rule that you need to mirror someone's emotions when consoling them

Everyone grieves in a unique way. I never get angry but when something sad happens in my life I get angry.

Maybe you feel pressured to be strong for your loved ones?
