Is it normal to not know when an animal becomes a pet?
What defines an animal as a pet? It's not if it lives with you because I have flies, spiders and moths that have lived with me and that weren't pets. It's not if you feed or train the animal because working dogs are fed and trained but aren't pets. It's not whether you've bought the animal because if a stray cat wanders in and then stays (or even a cat that has abandoned your neighbour and come to live with you), then it is a pet but not one you've bought. I know what I think but rather than influence this story, I won't mention it (yet). Does anyone have a clear definition which works in any circumstance to determine if an animal is a pet or not. I mean every single circumstance (i.e., so it's not whether you love the animal or not because you can have a pet you don't love). What makes a pet?
