Is it normal to not like those who turn off game music while gaming?

I love video game music, to be completely direct. I knew this from 1st grade as I can remember myself humming King K. Rool's theme from Donkey Kong Country in class. In high school, while people were making each other CD's of popular artists via torrents, I was making CDs with Kirby, Ratchet and Clank, Megaman, Kingdom Hearts, you name it.

Its bad enough that non-gamers already find that all games are bad for you simply because they don't play them and therefore label them as bad, but I especially dislike those who turn off the music. Game music composers seriously don't get enough respect and while people do appreciate their work, you won't find it outside of online shopping or the games themselves. When you're fighting that epic boss of death, with great music, it creates a mood an intensity that when removed, completely kills the mood. I could understand if it was an MMO and you had to grind for EXP and wanted to listen to something else to prevent your head from slamming against the keyboard due to fatigue but otherwise, it just seems wrong. I even told someone I used to work with that I liked game music and she said "Oh, well I listen to normal music". In my opinion, game music is the epitome of creativity that cannot be matched so, is this feeling normal?

Guilty as charged! Although to be fair, I am thinking of an MMO where I'm grinding for XP. It's boring enough in the first place without hearing the same music over and over. Although I also turn the radio down in GTA and turn it off completely in NFS (because I want to hear the engine so I can judge the revs without looking down at the rev counter and also hear when I've gone past the limits of grip).

Where the music adds to the game, I always leave it on.

Haha, I never would've imagined you playing GTA, somehow. I never really bothered. Also, I'm not allowed to play MMOs, because I'm horribly prone to addiction. I just won't stop playing, and then I'll wither away into a tiny Violet husk. Best Friend will come home from work one day to find a pile of clothes next to my computer with a tiny, wrinkly Violet in the middle, trying to reach the keyboard with two inch arms.

Ahh, mainly for the driving as opposed to the violence against prostitutes. I like driving the little Faggio scooter around and saying "ciao bella" to people.

For cars, Need for Speed is where it's at. It's lucky I don't drive to be honest, if I drive anything like I drive in games. I only have two speeds: top speed, and crashed into a wall speed.

Hahaha. Fact: My dad once totalled a car immediately after saying "Mario Kart!" Driving in real life is generally easier than driving in games, though. Just, uh, don't do that.

I love game music too... Pokemon, rayman, spyro, and croc were some of my favorites as a kid, especially like 8bit(?) music of old gameboy games, I had recorded a few to my computer. I don't even turn off MMO music, because if it starts to get annoying thats when i know it's time to quit for awhile... also the katamari series for ps2 has great music..and on gta4 I always put the radio on Vladivostok or electrochoc xD

I make my husand put on headphones if he insists on listening to the same song 20 times in a row. The same is true of video game music.

I feel the same about game music but I'm not quite so passionate about it.

Just curious, do you have a favorite game soundtrack at all? I think mine would be the one from shadowhearts covenant for the ps2. I think that was half the reason I played that game so much.

    Sorry, guilty.

When I played Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, I played on an XBOX 360 and discovered that I could hook in my IPod and it would PLAY THE FUCKIN' MUSIC, AS I WAS GAMING, SILENCE IT DURING THE CUT SCENES AND FUCK IT JUST SYNCED IT WITH MY GAME. IT FUCKING SYNCED IT WITH MY GAME.

HAVE YOU *EVER* FUCKING BATTLED IRON MAN WHILST PLAYING AS WOLVERINE TO "DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS"??? HAVE YOU EVER FUCKING WHOOPED SONGBIRD'S ASS TO "THE GAME"??? HAVE YOU EVER KICKED THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF PENANCE TO "ARE YOU DEAD YET?"????

    • Don't worry~ I never said I haven't done that before either. I have a flash drive filled with all kinds of Touhou and other game music that I might feel like playing while gaming one day as the feature is really nice. Shoot, WipEout HD Fury even promotes this by letting you pick your playlists in-game. My gripe is with those who simply don't like to have the original game music on at all and would turn off the music even on a first playthrough of a game and never know what it sounds like. If you're playing the game for the 2nd time or more then by all means, put on the cliche One Winged Angel.
