Is it normal to not swear in front of girls only?

I've been swearing a lot lately and it's just been weird. I'm a college freshmen and I have this thing called "never swear in front of girls" just to respect girls. I pretty much kept it through my whole like and before I came into college I broke it like three times when I got really mad and stuff. but the thing is girls are giving me weird look when i try not to swear, so I make this face to look for another word and my best friend tell them I don't swear in front of girls. so I was wondering, is it weird to not swear only in front of girls? am I doing the wrong thing?

A word is only bad if you have associated it as such...shit, i just used 'shit' as an interjection and i dont feel like i cussed at all. Now I could sit here and bore you with how that all ties into how the mind works, societies pre conception of what is bad and what is good, along with how it is impossible to judge what is a cuss word from a religious perspective but Im not going to instead ill just bore you another way and comment a huge message with no content and end it with. maybe. maybe it is normal.

I don't completely refrain in front of women, but I do tone it down. I say filthy things around my male friends that I would never say in front of my wife or other females.

mrs. joybird, I really appreciate knowing at least one lady cares about my effort. but no one around me seems to care. I don't see any girls appreciate what I do to girls. they only see what I did wrong and anytime I do gentle things for them they bring that one bad thing over and over again and make me look bad in front of others.. for putting one dish on this one girl's plate made me a baby who doesn't know any manner even though I've took care of her plate many different times. though I really appreciate your comment, letting me know there is chance of meeting a girl who cares. thank you(:

ps I don't care if girl swears.. I just won't.. I try not to swear so girls dont swear either.

You're with the wrong crowd at the moment. Your reputation will precede you and employers will also love you. To be honest, you sound as though you will be a professional person. I have many friends who are doctors, teachers, lawyers and accountants, although my husband is a tradesman, but I have NEVER heard any of these people ever swear.

If it just rolls off the tongue too easily, there is a serious risk that it could be said at work and people are disciplined or can lose their jobs. Just you stay the way you are. You are seeking approval from people who don't have the same manners so I wouldn't worry what they think.

My husband calls it 'industrial language' only heard on the shop floor and not among respectable people. The others will grow up someday and have real trouble trying to stop.

The key to finding happiness is pretending to be someone you are not in order to impress people.

It's proper for men not to swear in front of women. Some mothers teach it to their kids that way and I've met people who are the same way.

One of my old friends used to apologize every time he slipped a curse word while we were chatting. It always flustered me until he explained to me that he was always taught it was disrespectful.

You're fine. I try not to swear in front of most girls, though I do swear naturally sometimes, and with friends that I know are ok with it I sometimes make exceptions.

I voted that it's normal because historically it has been. I know middle-aged men who aren't comfortable swearing in front of women. However lots of guys your age seem to be fine with it.

    we can take it
its a bit old school what you are trying to do

I can respect your intentions, but the fact that you're treating girls differently at all is kind of sexist. What are you trying to do, protect them? You'll have a hard time with that, not that they need protecting anyway. Either swear or don't, but don't treat girls differently than guys.

I fall under the same personal restriction. I agree with joybird, and am glad to see there are still other men out there with good manners.

I think that I do this too. Except for me it is not only girls but also people I am not very familiar with. I have often received a surprised exclamation from finally saying a swear word around somebody that I have known for a while.

You have lovely manners and decent girls will appreciate the effort you make to show them respect. My husband of 20+ years is exactly the same as you.

If you can demonstrate such a level of restraint no girl would ever be afraid of you being nasty or violent.

Please post your name - I love you!
Your mother must be very proud!!

Well that's very considerate of you, but I wouldn't worry about it. Have you heard the way some chicks talk? Frikkin potty mouths! (Myself included)
