Is it normal to only to think bout buy a car now?

I'm 28 and do not own a car.. parents own the car I'm not really driving now as it hot a big kangaroo and is in need of big repairs.. they say they are looking for a car for me but I want to get a car for myself or at least one in my name so I dont have to go to my parents everytime theres something wrong with the car..

My partner said to just let them buy you one or wait till we can get one that be seems to want me to have (not 100% what's going on with him on the subject) and doesnt want me to get a shitty car that's done around 300000 (understandably)

I had the money a few years ago.. like $10000 or something but then got depressed and work didn't give me enough hrs so I used it up on other crap..

Is it silly or what??

I think it's fine to let your folks buy you a car. As long as you are appreciative I don't see a problem.

If you're in a tough spot, let your parents help you.

When you're up on your feet, you'll have plenty of opportunities to buy cars.

My parents got me my first car, also my dream car. Mercedes C220 CDI, full spec, automatic when I went to university. Absolutely gorgeous car, I still keep today, 8 years later. Greatest gift an 18 year old car guy can get... I've only dropped the feeling of needing to repay my dad for the gesture, when I bought him a pickup truck and a boat with trailer he can go fishing with for his 60th birthday.

You'll buy your own cars eventually. Stay safe out there.

"I've bought a bunch of cars since, so don't sweat it."

You know, people here will be glad to know. A lot of us lose sleep worrying about how many cars you have bought.

I just read what I wrote and I come off like a selfish, obnoxious prick. Wrote this after a few drinks.
Sorry about that and thanks for calling me out on my bullshit. Edited.

Well, work hard and save money, just don't go for one of those quick loans to finance your car.
          Those are scams.

In the meantime, let your parents help you. Can't imagine living in Australia without a car being fun.

How do you get to work? If you live in a tightly packed area and bike to work or something, you are actually being smart.

If you have a car you can borrow whenever you need, then why worry you don't have one?

I think what you should do is go on craigslist and buy a decent used car for about 2500. I always buy cheap cars from 1500-2500 and it works great. I bought a car for 2200 in 2014 and have never even had it worked on it still runs great. It only had like 114,000 miles on it when I bought it

No I moved out of parents well over a year ago.. moved in with my bf.. he was the one that hit the roo that fucked my car up... but I hold no grudge with that as I hit a roo with the same car 6 months before.. and I have had jobs here but none lasted.. so dont judge if you don't know the full story

If you can avoid it though, don't buy some American piece of shit.
Any car could give problems but American cars are nothing but problems.

This is especially true if you don't have much to spend.

I've had great luck with Fords. Had a friend with a Mitsubishi that constantly had something wrong with it, and have heard nothing but bad things about VW, BMW, etc. I hear Toyota and Honda are great, though.

Toyota and Honda are less likely to have problems BUT they are slow and not exactly stylish.

That's okay for me, lol. My cars are strictly for getting from point A to point B, so reliability is my #1 concern.

That does not mean that Toyota and Honda are immune to problems, what it does mean though is that they are less likely to mess up and usually easier to fix when something does go wrong.

ONE thing though - Honda and Toyota tend to burn and leak a little oil so with either one, especially used, make sure and keep an eye on the engine oil level. I know it sounds stupid but that is the main fault of those brands.

My Toyota goes through about a quart of oil about every 2000 miles/3000 kilometers.
