Is it normal to over-analyse your conversations?

Whenever I'm talking to people I always worry about what I say and think in depth about what they're saying, like if I said the right thing or what they actually meant when they said something. It makes talking to people hard to enjoy and makes me paranoid. Do other people do similar things?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Yes I do. I also ruminate over what I said to people amongst other things. I tend to over analyse trivial insignificant conversations/actions/experiences until I rationalise my thoughts & feelings. In my case it's part of social anxiety.

What you have posted above sounds like social anxiety (social phobia) to me.

      Thanks for the reply

Sorry to hear you've got the same issue, it makes talking to people a challenge and puts you on edge.
Have you found anyway to reduce your anxiety? To calm yourself in situations so that you don't worry about what people are thinking in response to what you're saying?

NP.The only three things that have worked for me were CBT. Then practicing what you learned over & over again. Once you have learned it keep on practicing it wherever you go. Graded exposure therapy should also help as well as a prescription for a beta blocker.

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a look into the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Hope you manage to get those thoughts out of your head, I know how draining they can be
