Is it normal to pick at fabric?

As long as I've known, I've been told that I do this and I still do it, sometimes it's a conscious decision but very rarely. Since I was a baby, any time somebody wears soft clothes, or there's very super soft fabric that can be picked or has fuzzies on it, I pull them with my fingers and roll them into tiny little cotton balls. No idea why, but when I was little I would pull at the little pieces of frayed fabric with my lips. I catch myself a lot, but I've never actually tried to stop myself. Sometimes if my boyfriend is wearing a soft cotton tshirt, if I have my hand on his shoulder or something, I'll find myself rubbing and pulling at the material on it. I've never seen anybody else do it but it can't be just me.
