If it is an adult; don't lift it by it's scruff as it will be too heavy & it will hurt it.
^Wrong. Picking up a cat by the scruff is highly unrecommended. It's not only very unpleasant for them and puts a strain on their neck muscles, they can be seriously injured.
It may not hurt, but if her tail poofed it means you're either scaring her or making her mad. You should stop.
Please DO NOT pick your cat up like this. It's such an idiotic, barbaric and inhumane way of handling an animal. The animal is an adult and is heavy, lifting it in this manner can actually hurt them and make them think they're in danger. Just use common sense and some respect for animals please.
It's not a 1 pound kitten anymore, don't do it. Ever.
When I pick my cat up, I scoop my arm under his bum and support his front end with my other arm, and hoist him so his paws are hanging over my shoulder. This is extremely comfortable for a cat, and probably one of the best ways to handle them in a non-threatening and comfortable manner.
You can do this if your cat is:
1. Less than 4 years old
AND
2. Less than 4 kg in weight.
If u support the bodyweight & do it lovingly they love it just gently pull the loose skin but don't lift them or if u do hold there body up & just soft tugs in a boincy way & they zonk out & smile & purr & fall right to sleep have done it tons if times.
Picking them up like that would be bad, but holding them down in that way isn't too bad as long as you aren't rough or hold them too hard and only do it sparingly. Sometimes I do it to one of mine when she's getting flea treatment put on.
If it's an adult, NO! It's animal abuse! A poofed up tail also means that it is either scared or frightened.
I didn't lift her I just grabbed it to stop her from biting and clawing me 0.o
Only their mother (cat) knows how to do it perfectly...& its only when they are newborns that she does this. If a human does this, especially to a cat thats more than a few weeks old...it puts strain on their neck & spine, & can cause damage.
No, you should never do that to a cat or more specifically an adult cat, though it's not a good idea to do it to kittens either. Pick up a cat by supporting their front with a hand and make sure to support the rear as well.
It is ok to pick up a cat like it's mother would as long as it's not done in anger or meant to hurt the cat
