Is it normal to poke my fingertips with my pencils?

Ok, so every day that I use a pencil I have a compulsion to touch my fingertips with the sharp lead. This is normally done with a mechanical pencil, and sometimes I have to get just the right spot before I can be done. I must also do this on all of my fingers, and my fingers neither bruise nor bleed, they are just simply poked. I'm not sure whether it's a form of OCD or not, but is it normal?

I'm kind of doing it right now. In between typing things here, I have the mouse in my right hand and an uncurled paper clip in my left which I use play with (often poking my finger). Someone told me it was because I'd given up smoking and I need to keep my hands busy. Only problem with that is that I've always done it. For years I used to play with a braille tag. Then it was a stubby pencil. Now my toy is a paper clip. It's all gone dark grey with oxidisation because I've had it about two years.
