Is it normal to prefer the taste of healthier foods?

This isn't a trained or acquired taste thing. For some reason I've noticed I naturally enjoy the taste of what most consider healthy foods. I love the flavor and texture of avocados, cucumbers, okra, bell peppers, lean meats, things like that. Yes once in a while I'll have a taste for a sweet snack, I'm only human after all, but most the time if you give me the option between, say, ice cream over black olives, I'll go for the olives just because I think they taste better. Heck, I think brussels sprouts taste like candy due to their sweet, juicy center.

Is this normal or do I just have one whacked out sense of taste?

Isn't it nice to eat food the way it was intended to taste? Pumping food and livestock up on chemicals, hormones, and God knows what else is never going to taste like real food. The nutrient value is much higher as well if there is actually any nutrients in processed high production food.

    • I agree. Kinda wonder if the fact that I was a ranch/farm kid affected my tastes any. Growing up I farmed and harvested or raised, killed and butchered most of what I ate. Was even friends with the cow I got my milk from. The taste is really different. I was actually AFRAID to eat processed foods when I joined normal society, mostly because I couldn't pronounce everything on their labels.

I used to be addicted to sesame seed sticks. But you would probably count that as a sweet.

    • Not super sweet. I can see the appeal to them. Hey, it's better than being addicted to gummy bears or something.

That sounds very healthy to me and I'm the same: I can't eat white bread or fatty red meat and I lOVE broccoli

    • Totally a rye bread person here. The flavor is just so much better than white bread!

  • Your palate leans towards the savory, completely normal.
Caramelize some onions, put them on toast, sprinkle on a little Gorgonzola cheese and you’ll be a happy person.

      • Add arugula if you’re in the mood. I do this on homemade pizza and ppl go nuts for it.

I taste comes down to a matter of personal preference. I love sweets, and even when I have cut I out sugar and white flour I always prefer fruits over vegetables.

I really love spinach though, and I have no desire for pineapple on pizza, because to me it would be just wrong. I love pizza with spinach and mushrooms.

I wish I was the same. I can't look at a vegetable without gagging.
