Is it normal to pull my hair out, cook my follicles and eat them?

I seem to be on the verge of forming the habit of pulling my hair out with the follicle. Then I put the follicle in boiling water to cook it and then I remove it. Then I use my teeth to strip the follicle from the strand and eat it. Is it normal to do this?

  • I don't think Bobbie Flay would approve of your hair spaghetti.

But really, no. I have never understood Trichotillomania and you have taken it one step further. If you are on the verge, then stop before it is a full blown habit!

Pulling hair out (eyebrows, eyelashes, regular hair, etc.) can be an indication of three things (may be more)

    Trichotillomania - seek medical advice
Stress - As a way to cope with stress, you brain is literally swapping the longer lasting mental pain for short term physical pain to deal with stress (literally pulling your hair out from stress)
Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptocaccal (PANDAS) - In this, the Strep virus attacks the brain. Usually the Strep virus attacks the throat and causes strep throat. But if it attacks the heart it can cause Rheumatic fever, and is it attacks the brain, it causes PANDAS (not black and white) This is where the strep virus is in your brain, but it looks like some types of brain cells. the antibodies don't know what to attack, so they attack the brain cells too. The result is OCD like symptoms, such as pulling out hair, etc. Can be treated with antibiotics if caught early enough. Ask your doctor to test your Strep Titer. more info here: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/pandas/index.shtml

Way too much trouble for such tiny objects. Why even bother with them? Do they even have a taste?
