Is it normal to read several books at once?

I enjoy reading several books at once. I follow all the plots and read them whenever I think of them, or take turns by chapter. For example right now I am reading War and Peace, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Dracula, and Northanger Abbey ( if I spelled that correctly :) hopefully this made some sense. Anyway, is this normal?

I used to do it all the time. Not anymore since I'm usually too busy writing a book to bother reading somebody else's work.

      What do you write about?

  • I'm usually reading a few at once: An economics or financial tome or two for work, an historical biography for fun, and perhaps a trashy romance novel. And when I was working on my advanced degrees, I always had several textbooks underway at one time.

The only time I have more than one book on the go is when I'm getting bored of one and start dipping into another. I could happily read three or four at the same time but I prefer to give all my attention to one thing.

I would say if you read the chapters backwards, that could be considered abnormal. I've done that before...

When I lived with my parents still my mum constantly complained about finding random books lying open around the house. There'd always be at least 2 in the bathroom. :P
