Is it normal to scratch plaque off your tongue with your fingernails?

Sometimes I do this when I feel there is too much plaque on my tongue. I know it's probably not the most hygienic thing, but is this normal?

    Use the toothbrush while you are brushing your teeth. Just how long are your finger nails? Better yet, do you know where your fingers have been lately?
