Is it normal to send pm's to members of a group chat?

I'm in a group chat on whatsapp, which is mostly memes and sometimes chatting. Recently , I've been getting pm's from members of the group. I've been ignoring the majority since I don't really know them, but it's getting kind of annoying.

    Nah, I'm in a group chat on kik and people pm'ing others in the group got so bad and so aggravating that we had to put in the name of the group that you have to ask (in the group) to pm someone.

    Y'all are in a g r o u p for a reason, instead of private.
