Is it normal to shy away from small children?

If I`m out in public & a small child gets too close to me, & move away as quickly as I can. Mainly it`s because I really can`t relate to them,I mean, it might want to interact with me or something, but the main reason is that kids carry all sorts of germs. Iv`e noticed that people who have close contact with children tend to catch loads of illnesses, especially stomach flu,& that`s one thing that scares the hell out of me because I`m emetophobic. The last time I had stomach flu was over 40 years ago, & I caught that from a sick baby. Never again!

I hate rug rats and so does my wife. They are noisy, rude, smelly and dirty. As the OP said, they are disease factories just waiting to sneeze their germs all over us. We'll cross a room or a street to stay as far from the little pests as possible and the really obnoxious ones can ruin a nice meal out. Don't want grand children; I raised my daughters and that was fine, but now, I'm done. I'm way too selfish to have another child in my life.

  • If THAT'S the top reason why you're so averse to interacting with children, then I think I can guess that you're not American.....

I'm the same way, but that's only because I don't want their parents or anyone else to freak out because I'm around a child.
