Is it normal to speak faster on the phone than face to face?

I noticed I talk a lot faster on the phone than compared to a face-to-face conversation. I seem to interrupt the other speaker more too.

Maybe it's because on the phone, there are no visual cues on when to pause and wait?

        In the US, sure, but it's not all unlimited everywhere else.
