Is it normal to stab your gums and bite your lips?

Is it normal that I bite my lips and use sharp objects to pick at my gums just because it feels really good? Don't get me wrong... this isn't self harm. I just feel pleasure doing this and I enjoy sucking on the blood that comes out. It tastes good like iron. lol.

I totally understand the "feel good" part but it is extremely damaging. You might not notice now but later you'll regret doing so.

    Yup, I do this too.
I even bite the taste-buds of my tongue!

I cringed sooo much when I read this. I have a thing about gums. I cut my arms, so it's not like I can't stand self harm, just something about bleeding gums makes me gag. I do bite my cheeks though, not enough to make them bleed most of the time though.

I often bite my mouth like the side where are no teeth but that's all because I want my gums to stay ok

Stabbing, not normal. Biting, normal. I used to love drinking my lip blood. O+ babby!

I have no idea if that's normal but I scratch my gums too.I find it interesting how many people stab or scratch their gums with objects; I don't do that often, except maybe with a toothpick. As for if it's self harm or not, that depends on your definition. Technically it is because you are hurting a part of your body on purpose and it CAN be dangerous. I googled this habit a year ago because I felt like I knew I couldn't be the only person who did it and I found a story about a girl who had to get skin graphs because she did it so often. While I personally have cut, burn and scratched myself I feel that it was a different experience than gum scratching, but if gum scratching just out of pure pleasure and nothing else is self injury or not is debatable.
