Is it normal to still feel upset about what my co-worker had done?

Yesterday was my final day to be trained as a cashier at cheesecake factory. Cashiers earn tips due to all the work they do. They have to take orders over the phone and/or for in store to go orders, go grab them and are responsible to help the bakers when they are free, since they are behind the desserts display most of the time with the bakers. The customers can choose how much to tip. Not only that, cashiers are responsible to keep others' away from the drawer to keep them from taking the money because at the end the night they have to add up all the numbers on sales correctly.

Though yesterday was my certification day the lady that was training me happened to be a baker that day and I ended up being the cashier for the day and did all the work. I happened to look at the end of the day and all the tip that I had earned she had taken. I feel like I should had asked her where did the tip go that "I" had earned.

I understand that she was training me but I did all the work, I even did the bakers work while she was gone off smoking and going to the restroom. Also I have worked there longer than her. I start out as a baker which I've been there nearly a year now.

I feel like asking her why she took it when I did all the work.

Ok, the baking is a hard job. But the tip jar is traditionally for the staff that waits on the customers. Customer service is a hard job too. Since they are on the front lines, they should get the tips. Because if something doesn't please the customer they are the ones that get yelled at. "hey your taking to long." "Thats not what I wanted" "I didn't know it was going to be that much. I want to return it" or my favorite "Here's forty dollars for that 37.62." CaChing "Hey wait give me back that forty and a break this hundred but I want a roll of quarters, and some tens, and at least six ones. You can do all that math in your head right. And hurry up. You have three more impatient customers like me."

It's a common thing that happens but I agree, it's not really fair.

I worked as a hotel maid and when I started, the head housekeeper told me to put all the refundable bottles I found in my rooms into their communal collection except new workers didn't get a cut of the bottle money until a full month later (so the month you were hired PLUS the whole next month...no can money) and I was like...fuck that! I just took all my cans and bottles home with me after work. That bitch was like...oh noooo! I guess nobody ever challenged the stupid rule before. And she tried to say something but I said I didn't like the policy so I was just taking my own cans and they can keep theirs and split their shit however they want. It was actually quite a bit of money too, a few dollars a day at least and it adds up.

I can't remember if it's happened to me but I've definitely witnessed it. When I worked in retail the boss at my work would always withhold a new employee's commission during their training days. I didn't agree with the practice but I could sort of understand their reason for doing it.

However, in your case it's not like you had assisted training. Doing all the work = you deserve all the tips. If she takes your tips again, please don't hesitate to stand up for yourself because you have every right to. Just make sure you do it in a civil/polite but firm manner because being accusatory will only put her on the defensive.
