Is it normal to study so hard, but never get a's?

I study SO hard in social studies, in fact one time I copied the whole chapter. But never once has anyone in my class, including me gotten an A.
(we have open note tests btw)
Is this normal?
And what are some good ways to take notes? (I'm totally out of ideas)

    just keep up, don't be disappointed. school is stupid, and some of the smartest dudes don't get A - s. It's not how hard you try, it's sometimes just luck.

    One of the best ways to take notes is with a voice recorder, then send the resultant sound file to OneNote for transcription into text. YouTube also does transcription but it's not searchable like OneNote.
