I have failed algebra twice. I just can’t grasp it. Once I think I understand, I go to take a test and it’s all forgotten. Why? Does anybody have any tips or tricks to learning it? I’m obviously doing something very wrong. I am making A’s and B’s in all other classes. What can I do to master algebra?
Yeah I suck at all kinds of math, I have dyscalculia though.

Got it right in the end though with the right teacher and intensive studying. Schools usually do have arrangements so that you can get extra hours in math if needed. There's also lots of websites that explain math in more fun and simple ways, so look around at those.
Ah I remember math class, got a tutor would help me learn one thing so we move onto another, by the time we review previous stuff I've forgotten. Or what 99% of them did is they would try and teach me another way to reach the awnser and it would just screw the entire thing up so I could litterly do nothing anymore in that part of math.
Same. Most people are either good at math, or languages. Creative or linear. Not both.
Aye, despite my spelling english was my class. I always failed it cause I cant wrote a report if my life counted on it but otherwise I did really good, i read all the time and i catch so many grammatical errors either spelling or punctuation or whatever its hilarious.
I'm trying to learn Korean but I just havent been able to hold onto the motivation.
Math I'm horrible at. I can add subtract divide multiply fine outside of that you better give me a cheat sheet
If it makes you feel better I was always an advanced reader. My library would refuse me books due to my age. Fuck was that annoying. Like ove already read the stuff that interests me at my "level"theyd always be like remember the the 5 word rule and i would just look at them and be like I dont need your stupid rule these books are easy reads!
Yeah, I sucked at algebra, too. I never failed it, but I was doing pretty poorly compared to what I was used to. I then later realized that I greatly preferred trigonometry over algebra. Moral of the story: you'll get through it and find something you're better at.
YouTube it, I always found geometry very hard and algebra easy. Idk if it's true but I've heard that ppl that are good at one of those usually are not good at the other.
Maybe you have a bad teacher and people on YouTube could explain it better. There's also the website mathsisfun.com.
Can you get you a tutor? Some teachers will tutor students after school.
The best i can say is do what i did, go to www.coolmath.com. that site actually helped me about 9 years ago as i went back to school for voc rehab.
Learn programming, then you can realize it's applicability and it might make more sense to you.
Algebra was amazing, I used to hate Arithmetic (those tricky questions with ratios and stuffs, the math itself was easy, but the confusing way the questions were designed), Algebra was more straight forward like the basic equation of straight line y = mx + c my favorite branch and basic knowledge of Algebra can help you with more advanced topics like Calculus (m the slope of the graph, dy/dx = m, for straight line its fixed hence a straight line, it varies for higher degree curves, like y = ax^2+bx+c (quadratic curve), the slope (dy/dx) = 2ax+ b, it has different points, and you can determine the turning points of the curve whether it will be a maximum, minimum (d^2y/dx^2), etc, these are just the basics of calculus and with knowledge of algebra you can master them and they are important in advanced concepts of almost all fields be it Physics, Statistics, Economics, you need them like example Lagrangian Multiplier of an utility function, etc).
Absolutely, my man. It's fair to say that calculus is the gateway to the enlightenment of civilization. Ye who knows algebra not, will never see the secrets of wizards from centuries past.

Lagrangian Multiplier was crucial in Mathematical Economics and Econometric, also yes Calculus and mathematical concepts in various fields are easy if you master algebra. I did MBA and all mathematical concepts required knowledge of algebra. Even for business mathematics and operations management it is vital for determining the maximum profit when you have non linear revenue and expenditure expressions. Even advanced stock valuation methods used a lot of calculus materials. Calculus has been derived from limits, limits from functions which are core concepts of Algebra. Algebra is the mother branch of all mathematics. Even for other concepts like trigonometry, vectors and all you need algebraic knowledge.
Amen. I mean even numerical methods for Operations Research like Markov chains, Baysian decision trees, or the Simplex Method for Linear Programming make no sense without algebra. Anything that gets you traction descended from Algebra.

All I have to say as a language teacher is this: watch the words you use when you talk (and think) about yourself. You don't 'suck at algebra'. It's just that algebra doesn't come as naturally to you as some other things do, and you're working extra hard on it.
Conceptualise the situation this way, and algebra becomes a challenge you're taking on in the hope of making progress, rather than an insurmontable obstacle that you're powerless to do anything about. The way we frame situations with our words and in our minds makes a bigger difference than we give it credit for.
Oh yes. Yeees. I failed all my math classes since 8th grade. My teachers gave me * just passing* at 69 because i actually tried and did after school tutoring. Since i was smart in other classes and not a fuck- up i think they gave me a break
Algebra is all trial and error really. You first need to work out what one of the letters is, then the other.
Say for example 9x + 3y = 66
The way I'd work it out is:
9x + 3y = 66
3y = 66 - 9x
y = 22 - 3x
Then you'd need to assign a whole number to y and factor it back into the equation. Let's say for easiness that y = 7.
the equation now reads 9x + 21 = 66.
9x + 21 = 66
9x = 66 - 21
9x = 45
x = 5
Factor this back into the equation one last time to make sure it's correct:
45 + 21 = 66
Yup, spot on.
If it's not correct, assign another whole number to y and work it out again.
If you get homework and do it all you should be able to get plenty of practice.
When I struggled with math it was because I rarely did the homework and barely paid attention in class
