Is it normal to suck at learning spanish?

It's fine, some people don't pick up foreign languages as easy.

All you need to know in Spanish is the following words:
Despacito
Tacos
Burritos
Housekeeping

Yeah, I had a lot of trouble with Spanish in the past myself. Ended up taking Latin in highschool because I thought I hated Spanish and sucked at it, came back to Spanish after four years of Latin, and found it much easier.

With that being said, I don't actually think Spanish is one of the easiest languages to learn for English speakers. I would recommend German over it for a second language, lots of common ground as English has Germanic roots.

I would recommend watching novelas on Univision or Telemundo, or use the SAP Option on babytv lol.

I don't really get the point of learning a "foreign" language if it's just an intellectual exercise. Where I'm from there are two main languages and most people know both because everyone speaks both. Simple as that. If I emigrate to Germany or whatever I'll learn German and it will be easy because I'll be surrounded by it and have to know it to get anywhere (it helps I guess that it's close to my second language hehe).

If you're learning it but not speaking (aka applying it) in daily life it will be understandably difficult and (in my opinion) a waste of time other than a way to exercise your brain.

My father went for French and Hebrew lessons (no am not Jewish) for years and still can't speak it. If he sees a phrase he'll be able to slowly translate it but that's all. That's because no-one here speaks either language. Maybe if he had French friends he could become fluent.

Yeah, I suck at it too. I'm Puerto Rican, my parents didn't teach me the language. I took Spanish 1-4 in high school, passed the regents tests, but still came out learning nothing. Tried learning again two years ago, it wouldnt stick. Supposedly the window to learn new languages is at a very early age and most people miss that train.

What methods are you using to study? I’ve been studying Spanish for years, starting in highschool, and I found that my university’s materials were all but useless.

Also which parts are you finding the most difficult? I was struggling with grammar and sentence formation (as in school we basically just learned vocabulary lists) and Michelle Thomas’s Spanish CDs really helped. I’d recommend checking out his beginner’s course if you also think it’s your grammar holding you back.

I took Spanish at Lone Star College in the Spring semester of 2017, and I didn't do especially well.

Some people just don't have a gift for languages. Particularly if not exposed to other languages at an early age.

I'm shit at them, despite doing Indonesian for four years in primary school, German for two years at high school, and a brief attempt at Mandarin for work.

Why is it a requirement for your studies?

I am horrendous at foreign languages too. I am convinced the only way I could learn Spanish would be if I was sent to a Mexican prison.

Everyone says the best way to learn a language is through immersion. I suggest figuring out a way to do this, that's less terrifying than the example I gave.

Not good at foreign language either. Look up, at least you know the worlds most efficient language when it comes to meaning per syllable.
