Is it normal to think dogs belong outside?

I USED to like dogs. However, after marrying a man with two indoor dogs, I am fully convinced they should stay outdoors. These dogs poop and pee everywhere in the house even though the doggie door is readily available and the sun is shining. I work two jobs and DO NOT care to mop 3-4 times a day. These dogs STINK if they aren't bathed every other day. If I pet them, I have to wash my hands afterward so my hands don't stink. The Yorkie-Poo eats poop some times and has "crappy" breath, yet my husband allows it to lick him in the face..yuck!! The dogs sleep on the couch all day, then my husband joins them on the stinky couch from the time he gets home until bed time. I am forced to sit across the room in the recliner because there is "not enough room" for me on the couch. Then, every single night the Yorkie Poo starts barking and whining during the night...and my husband actually leaves our bed and sleeps on the couch with the dogs for the remainder of the night. Sometimes 1am-2am until dawn. We have only been married 10 months and I think this is BIZARRE. I think the dogs belong OUTSIDE.

Your husband needed to housebreak those dogs like, years ago. At the very least he needs to put down puppy pads where they normally go, get them groomed regularly and crate them with a tv in front of them or a radio at night.

If he got all of his carpets and cloth furniture cleaned and bathed them regularly, the smell would eventually go away. Then he should buy them dental treats. Most of the problems you outlined can be solved by him.

He sounds like a fucking idiot dog owner.

This. It's not the dogs fault they weren't trained properly.

My boyfriend has two dogs that are always inside unless taken on supervised outside trips. They know to use pee pads if they need it (well...the retarded puppy almost has it now...but he's a genuine retard so it's been slow :/)they get off the furniture if a human tells them to so they can sit down, they don't need washing as frequently as outdoor dogs because their environment is clean and their diet is healthy, and they don't bark all night (even the over anxious pup) because they have company.

OP doesn't seem to have even tried to implement change, so she's just as bad as her dumbfuck husband.

I fully agree. Some people act like they are in a romantic relationship with their dogs and it's bizarre. Also that whole thing about dogs having cleaner mouths than us is complete SHIT. You shouldn't let a dog lick your mouth because they eat disgusting things and they lick their own assholes.

I've had dogs nearly all my life and none of ours ever behaved like that. Maybe your husband is to blame also a bit of that small dog syndrome?

Dogs need to be housebroken, and taught basic obedience. It's not that hard, but it sounds like your husband has failed his responsibility. Shit, I managed to teach my cat some basic dog obedience, I really don't think it's that difficult. It sounds to me like your husband baby's his dogs which combined with a lack of training, and discipline has only served to make things worse.

I admit I'm not a fan of tiny dogs like Yorkies. My sister has a toy poodle whose very clean and we'll behaved. She takes him to the groomer regularly, and they take long daily walks. I don't think one can or should makes generalizations about all dogs.

I'm sorry you're having this problem, have you talked to him about all of this?

I agree with previous responders that you should have known about your husband's love for his dogs before you married him.
But, it's too late for that.
I would say if he wants dogs in the house he can clean up after them, or else keep them outside or in HIS garage. Hold your ground and don't clean up after them. He has to choose. Does he want a wife, or dogs? If he wants both, he has to take care of BOTH.
I would never kiss anybody on the mouth after he/she has kissed a dog's mouth. I've seen dogs sucking off their own dick, licking their own ass, eating rabbit crap and any other foul thing they can find. I don't care who says what, a dog's mouth is not cleaner than a person's!
If your husband is so selfish toward you that he prefers his dogs instead of solving the problems they create, I would see that as him being unfaithful to you and cheating on you. Maybe it's time to cut your losses and move on, before you have too much more invested in this failure of a relationship!

So you never visited your husbands home prior to marriage? You don't have to co-habitate, just visiting should havr clued you in he was an incompetent dog owner. Also, you don't need to explain simple words to this user, he's dar more intelligent than half of the idiots on this site, present company included.

Have you even attempted in ten months to train the damn dogs? Or your husband?

There's an issue with keeping dogs outside. Especially if you live in a more crowded area where houses are close to each other. The dog might disturb neighbors with it's barking.
As far as I'm concerned, I believe dogs should be removed from human populated areas all together.I find the concept of keeping an animal for companionship completely ridiculous.

It's NORMAL, they are animals and dont belong in the house all the time. One dog or cat in the house is okay as long as it is trained but if people want to keep them outside trained or not it is normal. What is NOT normal is a house full of animals, GROSSSS GROSS GROSSS Barf. People letting dogs lick them in the mouth YUCK YUCK YUCK.

It sounds like you're more fed up with your husband than the dogs. He should've taken better care of them and given you a bit more one-on-one attention. But I would have to disagree on your opinion that dogs belong outside. Just like children and other pets, dogs are family so they do belong in the house.
