Is it normal to think i'll never go to college?

I feel like I'll never make something of myself cause im too dumb. I don't even know basic history or any subject cause i was homeschooled so is it normal to feel like I would never be smart enough to get through college?

College isn't for everyone, and it's not a requirement for success. Find the right path for you.

College is for learning fancy words like nessicary and it's only to look edumacated on your resume. Also college idiots made the computer put red dots under all the words for no reason.

Well college is required for some professions. I plan on becoming a commercial diver. I cant do they without certifications and education.

Dont go to college just to go. Go strategically for the career you wish to pursue. I know many people with a degree but ended up driving trucks because it pays good. I hope that makes sense.

College might help in some cases but it is far from a guarantee.

The picture they paint would have you think you go in to a job with a degree and they hand you a blank check. Not even close.
It is more like, "Yeah you have a degree, so did the dozens of other applicants we interviewed today."

You shouldn't go to college, that's where they make people dumb.

  • Not at all. Don't underestimate yourself. When I was in high school I never saw myself in college and I never thought of myself as 'the sharpest knife in the drawer' either. But I went and ended up with masters and had a nice career in my chosen field.

You don't need to go to college to be successful, dude

Totally normal. In fact, when you meet with a large group of millionaires you will quickly observe that there is an inverse relationship with educational level and true wealth.

The current US education system squashes creativity and is only focusing on teaching you how to have a job. Jobs are not designed for your personal financial or even social success.

Of course, the school system and all the teachers and counselors will not tell you that... Get a good education and get a good job. They cannot tell you where you can find this good job... Currently the average college graduate is expected to change carriers at least 3 times in their life (and have multiple jobs within each carrier). Each different carrier requires more education...

Most millionaires start their own business and never leave owning their own business.... The most successful one I have ever personally met had I believe only an 8th grade education (and crooked teeth, and spit when he talked). He also had helped mentor 83 people by then from nothing to millionaire status; and another hundred + to just solid 6 figure incomes (after taxes). Something to think about...

What is it that makes people successful. There are actually laws of success.... and not a single one requires you to attend school. They in general do require you to learn and continue learning... which you can do on your own. The success books are out there.

I suggest you start with a modern one: "The Compound Effect" by Darren Hardy. It's a book about how to become successful at most anything and covers the key areas of success in a modern readable fashion for most people.

I wish you the best in your success,

Entry to some professions requires a degree and higher education can also be useful due to the networks created then, but it should be obvious that it's not necessary to have a degree in order to be successful in financial terms or to live a happy, fulfilled life.

Maybe you are indeed just not academically gifted, but blaming your lack of understanding of the world on the fact that you were home-schooled is really pretty stupid. You obviously have access to the internet and you're intelligent enough to find this site and figure out how to post, so what's stopping you from heading over to Khan Academy or YouTube, finding a topic that interests you and educating yourself? The internet is crammed full of educational resources ranging from primary school level up to post-graduate studies. These days, the only thing stopping anyone from learning anything they want to learn is a lack of motivation to do so.

There's nothing magical about colleges and universities. It's not like professors all possess a super-power that lets them pour knowledge into their students' heads during lectures. Lots of people leave university with a degree but little true understanding of the topic named on that fancy piece of paper because their primary skill is in taking exams, whereas those who are motivated to teach themselves can end up with a superior level of deep understanding because of their curiosity and internal motivation to learn.

Unless you're a total dolt who's happy to spend all your free waking hours sitting in your Lay Z Boy sinking brewskis, thinking resentful thoughts about your parents and staring at reality TV, there must be some topic that intrigues you, so start doing your own research into it. Maybe you'll only become highly proficient at boring people into a coma with your lectures on Revolutionary War era firearms, uniforms and military tactics, but most things in the world are connected in one way or another, so an interest in one thing can lead to an interest in a lot of things if you follow historical, political and scientific trails wherever they lead.

If you insist on believing that you'll only feel intellectually adequate if you have a college degree, then I guess the obvious first step is to get your GED, and then look at how you can get an Associates at your local community college.

I know a bunch of people doing quite well that never went to college. Or went to college, got fuckloads of debt and is now doing just fine in something they didn’t go to school for.

      The trades are underrated.

Finally, you've said something I can agree with, but it's not just tradespeople who are underrated and undervalued.

One of the interesting things going on at the moment is that quite a few people are noticing that farmers and delivery drivers and Amazon warehouse workers and people who work in stores and the guys who collect garbage and hospital cleaners and all the other undervalued and low-paid people who keep this thing called civilisation rolling down the road are actually pretty damn important. In fact, they're a lot more important than many of the college-educated assholes who spend their workdays sitting behind monitors, playing with other people's money and taking home paychecks that are fifty or a hundred times what the schmucks doing actual work get.

I don't think unskilled labor has the same value as the trades. These people are replaceable. You force businesses to pay more, they'll just invest in more automation or hire illegals.

The way the education system is now, pretty much anyone can go to university.
Excluding your Ivy legue or Oxbrige type universities. Most other universities will have pretty much anyone as they lack government funding. That’s why there is an increase with student numbers in class rooms.

At the end of the day having a degree doesn’t make you intelligent, and not having one doesn’t make you unintelligent.
Just work hard and focus on what you think will be beneficial for you in your adult life.

That's okay, most people who went to public school don't know basic history either. That's more a dig at the public education system than it is at the kids who didn't pay attention in class. If you really want to learn, then there are plenty of great online courses that you can take, and a bunch of stuff on YouTube. In most people's experience, public school actually crushes people's desire to learn, and what they do teach you is usually either unimportant or irrelevant. I actually genuinely admire that your desire to learn. That's usually a sign of intelligence.

Not everyone who goes to college is smart and you don't need to go to college to be smart. Figure out what you want to do with your life first. If that thing requires a college degree, then go for it. If not, then don't worry about it. Stop selling yourself short.
