Yes I completely agree. I don't completely trust anyone. My own mother even scammed me this year , taking my taxes. Everyone has something to hide, and it's just too easy for the wrong person to end up with any tid bit of info on you. There seems to be no sense of community anymore. It's rare to witness actual teamwork anymore. Or to know your neighbors. The point being, I don't think it's abnormal to think this way. Most say I'm a Debbie downer pessimist ; I look at it as being a realist and prepared for when shit goes south. How can you be disappointed or hurt that bad if you assume the worst? Insanity aside, it's never a bad thing to always know/be aware of your surroundings. I was in the mall parking lot last week, smoking, waiting for a friend to get off work. I just randomly glance at some car, who stopped completely in the middle of the driveway, it seemed they were picking someone up. I look over a bit later...they are still there. Right in front of me. I need glasses to see faraway, and about a month ago my right lens popped out, so I couldn't make out faces. But I saw a small hand come up from the bottom of passenger window...I look away as to not make it totally obvious I'm staring. Look back a minute later, this small hand now looks like it's holding a smartphone, and the fucking flash went off! Then they SPED off. They never picked anyone up and no one got out of the vehicle. Creeped me the f*** out

Sometimes they are up to no good, and untrustworthy, it depends on who the people are. It's possible that you may be hypervigilant as a result of past traumas. I highly recommend that you learn to spot the red flags of an unsafe person. Hang in there, brother/sister.

Some are, some aren't, but the ones that are leave scars, and when we feel less secure in life, we recall the bad ones and their misdeeds more than we remember the good. Today's technology allows for a myriad of intrusions into one's private life, so I agree, when opportunities knock, the trouble makers arrive before the door shuts them out. But you can't live a life feeling insecure either, so keep on living normally as you would, and do take measures to increase your privacy as the need arises. I've suffered from modern technology's ability to enable bad actors, and so I have lost some of my sense of security as well, but as time permits privacy fences may provide some relief from the abuses I've suffered. George Orwell's novel was a warning, not a prophecy.

My distrust of people comes and goes randomly. I wonder if the people I become distrustful of, actually are bad people.

The more you behave like people are out to get you, the more likely they will be. If you treat others with suspicion, they'll treat you the same way.

The syllable count seems off there.

Both a rhyme and a syllable problem with that couplet...

Well, it may be wrong, but it sold millions of copies. The author is a lot more famous and richer than I, so he must be doing something right.
